GALWAY PRESERVATION SOCIETY: March 6th at 7 p.m. “The Trevett & Sons Chair Factory”. Bob Wemple, Providence Town Historian will present the history of the Trevett & Sons Chair Factory which was located in the town of Providence to the monthly meeting of the Galway Preservation Society. The factory was in operation from the mid 1800s until early 1923, making thousands of chairs which are still collected today. The meeting will be held at the Galway Town Hall, 5910 Sacandaga Rd., Galway. Please join us.

CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS: The Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA), Court McLaughlin #422, will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 7th, at the Knights of Columbus, 50 Pine Road, Saratoga Springs. SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETING: Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are regularly scheduled for 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 474 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. Meetings are held in the Council Room at City Hall at this time. Meetings are open to the public, and admission into the room will be on a first-come, first-served basis. BALLSTON AREA SENIORS MEETINGS: The Ballston Area Seniors meet at the Town of Milton Community Center, 310 Northline Rd. every Thursday at 10 a.m. to play cards, use the craft and pool rooms or just socialize. Lunch is at noon. The Saratoga County Dept. of Aging & Youth is serving at the center Congregate Meals from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Reservations are required the day before your meal, call 518-884-0163. At lunch the BASC Members may participate in Congregate Meals or bring your own lunch, your choice. We will have pizza every third Thursday of the month. The fourth Thursday is Potluck Lunch, to participate bring something to share or pay $3 at the door. Coffee and hot water for tea will be available.

SUPERHERO SYNDROME LECTURE: Edwin M. Moseley Faculty Research Lecture at Skidmore College – “The Superhero Syndrome: Keep Your Eyes on the PRISE” Presented by Paul Arciero, Professor of Health and Human Physiological Sciences AT 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2023 in the Gannett Auditorium of Palamountain Hall. Do as I say, not as I do. For many years, this was the life of world-renowned nutrition and exercise physiology scientist, Dr. Paul Arciero. Suffering from debilitating panic attacks and herniated discs in his back and unable to travel to present his research to a global audience, he was suffering from the Superhero Syndrome, saving everyone else…but himself. Watch as he overcomes his reality of losing loved ones and “never being smart enough” along his journey, to him discovering a method to help others and himself live with more optimal health and performance. Today he calls this scientific fountain of youth the PRISE life.

FISH FRY FRIDAY: Knights of Columbus Council #246 will once again be hosting Fish Fry Friday each Friday throughout Lent, Feb. 24 through April, from 5 to 7 p.m. However, the event will resume with advance call-in of orders on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between the hours of noon and 3 p.m., beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The menu will include Fried or Baked Haddock ($15) or Fried Clam Strips ($12), each with French Fries, Cole Slaw, Tartar Sauce, and Cocktail Sauce; Macaroni and Cheese ($5); New England Clam Chowder (pint – $7/quart – $13); Single Order o French Fries ($3); and Dessert ($2 – when available). FISH FRY FRIDAYS: The Fish Creek Rod and Gun Club Friday Night Fish Fry will be back for 2023. WINTER TREE IDENTIFICATION: Saturday, March 11, 1:00 – 2:00 PM at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. With no leaves on the trees, how do we identify them? Find out the differences between trees with needles and trees with leaves then determine the type of tree based on bark. Registration is required as space is limited. SARATOGA IRISH FAMILIES FESTIVAL: The Saratoga Ancient Order of Hibernians will hold the Saratoga Irish Family Festival from 1 to 6:30 pm on Sat. INVASIVE SPECIES FIELD TRAINING: The public is invited to attend a hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) field survey training on Saturday, March 11, from 10 am to noon, at Hearthstone Point Campground in Lake George. Program leaders will give an overview of winter outing safety skills, while teaching how to identify hemlock trees, survey for hemlock woolly adelgid, and report findings using iMapInvasives. HWA is killing eastern hemlock trees from the Great Smoky Mountains to Canada—it was first found in the Adirondack Park in 2017. Citizen scientists can help determine how far HWA has spread. Winter hiking gear (snowshoes and/or microspikes) may be required for this event depending on conditions. This in-person training is co-sponsored by the Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC), Adirondack Mountain Club, and Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APIPP). STRESS REDUCTION CLASSES: Join us for the Saratoga Stress Reduction Program, an eight-week course in mindfulness-based meditation and stress reduction beginning Jan. 21 in person at Caffe Lena. The Saturday morning sessions are held 8 – 9:30 a.m. and run Jan. 21 through March 18 and provide instruction in formal mindfulness meditation methods including a body scan, gentle yoga, sitting and walking meditation. (No meeting Sat. Feb. 25.) Our credentialed instructors have taught locally, nationally, and internationally for over 10 years. We have taught over 100 classes in Saratoga with over 3000 graduates and are delighted and grateful for the opportunity to have Caffe Lena as our host venue. GRIEF SHARE GROUP: A Grief Share group will begin Tuesday, March 14th at South Glens Falls United Methodist Church, located at 15 Maplewood Parkway in South Glens Falls. GriefShare seminars and support groups are meant to help you recover from your loss and look forward to rebuilding your life. You don’t have to go through the grieving process alone. HISTORY LECTURE: The Waterford Historical Museum and Cultural Center’s final lecture of its annual Winter Lecture Series will be held at the museum on March 14th at 7pm. We hope you will join us for a presentation by military historian Eric Schnitzer titled, “Brave and Gallant” African-American Military Men at the Battle of Saratoga at the Waterford Historical Museum and Cultural Center at 2 Museum Lane, Waterford. NAVIGATING EMOTIONAL WELLNESS YOUTH WORKSHOP: Galway Public Library, 2112 East St., Galway, presents Navigating Emotional Wellness Youth Workshop on March 16th at 4:00. Join Stacey Kozak, M.S. SARATOGA HISTORY HAPPY HOUR: The Saratoga History Happy Hour, for Saratoga County History Center members, is a series of three happy hour programs at which local historians or experts weigh in on a variety of historical topics, share their insights, answer audience questions, participate in a trivia contest and enjoy libations from a New York state craft brewery at the Real McCoy Beer Company in Ballston Spa. The program takes place at 6 p.m. at the Real McCoy Beer Company, the historic birthplace of Major-General Abner Doubleday located at 28 Washington St. in the village of Ballston Spa. March 16 – Saratoga Style Baseball, including the story of the Abner Doubleday House and Lefty Mulligan, with town of Saratoga historian Sean Kelleher and others. HISTORIAN TEA TALK: The Saratoga County History Center will host a monthly series of informal Historian Tea Talks, presented by historians from around the county, beginning in February. Tea and cookies will be served, and the talks will take place in the Long Room at Brookside Museum. February 21, 3 PM – Crime and Misadventures in Corinth. Rachel Clothier, Corinth Town Historian. March 21, 3 PM – The Mott’s Apple Empire. Lynda Bryan, Halfmoon Town Historian. April 18, 3 PM – Hall’s Brookside Dairy, Greenfield Center. Visitors will also have the opportunity to glimpse at improvements being made behind the scenes of the 230-year-old building as the History Center prepares the exciting new immersive exhibit on Saratoga County, opening in Spring 2023. VISIONING WORKSHOP: The Town of Halfmoon invites community members, business owners, and other stakeholders to participate in an Open-House Visioning Workshop as part of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan Update. The public workshop is scheduled for Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Registration is not required for the event. FOOD AS MEDICINE: Saratoga Performing Arts Center announces a new CulinaryArts@SPAC series titled Food as Medicine featuring culinary tastings and drinks alongside insightful conversations with experts, physicians and writers discussing how food, lifestyle and wellness practices can support longevity, help to prevent disease, and manage chronic health conditions. Kicking off the new initiative is Brain Health Kitchen with Dr. Annie Fenn in conversation with WAMC’s Joe Donahue on January 27, followed by Plants First with Dr. Katie Takayasu on March 25. The series will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Nancy DiCresce Room at The Pines at Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Preceding the conversations, guests can enjoy mocktails, wine, and beer along with bites and tastings. Tickets to attend Brain Health Kitchen with Dr. Annie Fenn are $75 and include drinks (mocktails, wine and beer) and tastings along with admission to the conversation. Attendees can also purchase copies of Brain Health Kitchen at a specially discounted price of $30 ($35 retail). A book signing with the author will immediately follow the discussion. SUNRISE WALK: Sunday, March 26, 7:00 – 8:00 AM at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. Experience the beauty of a winter sunrise in the meadow and forest of Camp Saratoga. FISH FRY FRIDAYS: The Fish Creek Rod and Gun Club Friday Night Fish Fry will be back for 2023. Fish Fry Fridays will start Jan. 13 and run through April 7. We will be serving from 4 to 7 p.m, eat in or take out. Various menu items are available from fried fish to chicken nuggets with French fries, cole slaw and chowder. FOOD DRIVE: The Pines at Glens Falls is collaborating with The Veterans & Community Housing Coalition to host our 3rd annual drive thru – food drive to assist local veterans and their families. As in the past, the event will be a “drive thru” for the community and local businesses to drop off either non-perishable items or monetary donations. The drop off time will be between 11:00 am-1:00 pm on Friday, April 21st. In addition, on the day of the event, there will be area businesses set up with information, giveaways, raffles and more.

WING FEST: The Glens Falls Collaborative will be hosting its annual Wing Fest event on Saturday, April 29, 2023, from noon to 3 p.m. in Downtown Glens Falls. The event is a competition between restaurants for the best wings. Tasting is from noon to 3 p.m. and an awards ceremony at the bandstand in City Park at 3:30 p.m. will close out the event, with multiple categories of winners. There will also be live music in Downtown Glens Falls. The 2nd annual Michael DuBray Inferno Wing Eating Competition takes place at 2 p.m. on Glen Street during Wing Fest. Competitors will pay a registration fee of $25 that will go into a Michael DuBray Scholarship Fund. The winner will receive a trophy and bragging rights. The contest honors Michael DuBray, also known as DeeJay DuBray, who helped found the event and served as its chair and champion for many years. Register at www.glensfallscollaborative.com. This event will be cash only, a departure from the previous ticket system. Participating Downtown restaurants will serve from their storefronts, and restaurants from outside the city will serve from locations along Glen, Ridge and Maple Streets. There will be entertainment in City Park. Voting will take place online at glensfallscollaborative.com. QR codes for voting will be displayed around town and votes must be cast by 3 p.m.

WOMEN’S DAY EVENT: All women are invited to attend an all day “Step by Step” springtime event, sponsored by Hope For A Woman’s Heart, at the Courtyard by Marriott in Lake George from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 29th. Participating activities will include: Dance numbers with husband and wife team Aaron & Christy Coulson; the Glorious Praise Dancers group; music by singer Tomi Jo Ball and a floral arrangement demonstration by Gina Whalen. Raffles and vendor shopping will also be available. Featured speakers Jillian Pelkey and Christy Coulson will give inspirational messages of Hope. Ticket cost is $60.00 per person ($50 with group of 10 or more). A Continental breakfast and Buffet lunch is inclusive. BALLSTON SPA FARMERS’ MARKET: The 2023 Ballston Spa Farmers’ Market, sponsored by the Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association (BSBPA), will run from June 10 through September 23, 2022. The markets will be held on Thursdays from 3-6 pm and Saturdays from 9 am-1 pm in Wiswall Park on Front Street, in the heart of downtown Ballston Spa.
