Can you imagine Peppi Azzopardi as head of the Maltese state?
New Maltese TV series ‘Il-President’ is satirising a situation where the popular presenter of Xarabank fame is elevated to the position of President of Malta.
Although the presidency is traditionally a ceremonial role, President Azzopardi will shake it up and seek to utilise its powers to defend the underdogs and vulnerable in society.
For example, his first act after taking the oath of allegiance is to visit the prison and sleep among the prisoners.
Azzopardi told Lovin Malta that although he has nothing to do with the show himself, he is looking forward to watching it.
“I am curious to see how this series will be treated,” he told Lovin Malta.
“Although I understand they chose my character because I might have some strange ideas, I am looking forward to seeing how this show will develop. I hope it won’t embarrass me too much.”
A 12-episode series, Il-President will start airing on GO Tokis on 27th December. It is produced by Watermelon Media, whose owner Pierre Portelli also directed and wrote the script.
Fabian Scerri de Carlo plays Azzopardi and Antonella Axisa plays his wife Mandy Micallef Grimaud.
It also features Ray Attard as the Prime Minister, Noel Zarb as the Opposition Leader, Christine Cachia as the government’s spin doctor, Ray Abdilla as the Head of the President’s Office, Clintess Cilia as the President’s PRO, Rowena Gauci Davison as the Leader of Moviment Ġens Wiehed.
It is produced by Diane Portelli, with Marley Lagana as the Director of Photography.
