Two Italian Coastguard vessels, Bruno Gregoretti and the Aurelio Visalli will be calling into the Grand Harbour in order to participate in a Maritime Exercise scheduled to be held in Maltese territorial waters between 6 and 9 May 2024.

This Maritime Exercise by the name of ‘Barracuda 2024’ has been bilaterally organised between the Armed Forces of Malta and the Italian Coastguard in collaboration with other local and foreign stakeholders such as Transport Malta, Virtù Ferries, the European Maritime Safety Agency, and the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre, amongst other stakeholders.

Besides participation with various maritime assets, rotary wing aircrafts together with other units, the Armed Forces of Malta is to take the lead role in the planning and execution of the exercise which will take place in and around the Maltese archipelago.

The exercise will be executed in three distinct phases, and aims to improve the capabilities, coordination and interoperability in several different pertinent areas such as mass rescue operations and pollution response scenarios.
